Regarding information collection and privacy

This privacy policy (“Policy” or “Privacy Policy”) applies to all domains and sub-domains of Global Village Vancouver’s (“school”) website (“Site”) exampreparationgvv.com.

This Policy is designed to tell you about our practices regarding the collection, use, and disclosure of personally identifiable information (“PII”) that you may provide via the school’s Site. Please read this entire Privacy Policy before using or submitting information to this Site.

This Policy applies only to PII that is collected online within Canada. It does not necessarily apply to PII that we collect through offline processes. When this Privacy Policy uses the term “personally identifiable information,” we mean information that identifies a particular individual, such as the individual’s name, postal address, e-mail address, telephone number, etc.

In this Policy, the terms “we,” “us,” or “our” refer to the school. The terms “you,” “your” or “yourself” refer to the user who is using this Site.

Your Consent

When you access or use this Site, you consent to the collection, use, and disclosure of your information in accordance with this Policy. By providing personal information to the Site, all users, fully acknowledge that they understand and consent to the collection, processing and use of such information according to Canadian law and these terms.

Collection of Information

Information You Give Us

We collect information from users both by asking specific questions and by permitting you to communicate directly with us via e-mail and the site’s other online functions. Some of the information that you submit to us may be PII, including, but not limited to, your name, address, telephone number, e-mail address, date of birth, and credit card information.

Non-Personally Identifiable Information – Cookies

We may collect some non-personal information about you, such as your IP address, using information-gathering technology, so it may not be readily apparent to you that it is being collected. This information is not PII. At this time, we do not disclose such information, but we may use it to test how our site is being used and how it can be improved.

Use & Disclosure of Information

The personal information that you provide to the school may be stored, processed, and used by us to contact you, provide you with information about the school, such as newsletters, updates or other literature, respond to your requests for information, update our records and conduct transactions with you.

In addition, we will disclose personal information about you if you request or direct us to do so, or if we are required to do so as specified in more detail in “Disclosure Exceptions,” below. Except as set forth in this Policy, we will not voluntarily disclose your personal information to other third parties without your permission. We do not sell your personal information.

Notwithstanding the above policies, we reserve the right to disclose your personal information to appropriate third parties if we are required to do so by law or we believe that such action is necessary:

  • To protect any other party’s rights, property, and safety;
  • To report to any law enforcement agency any activity that we, in good faith, believe to be unlawful;
  • To investigate, prevent or take action regarding illegal activity, suspected fraud, situations involving harassment, abusive messages or potential threats to the physical safety of any person;
  • To protect against misuse or unauthorized use of our Site, or;
  • During emergencies, such as when we believe someone’s safety is at risk.

In the event that the school is ever sold, acquired or otherwise transferred, we reserve the right to transfer our user databases, together with any PII contained therein, to a third party who acquires the assets. In the event we do so, we will place a prominent notice of the sale on the homepage of our Site, with links to information as to how you can change your privacy preferences.

Security

We take reasonable steps to protect your PII as you transmit it from your computer to our Site and to protect such information from loss, misuse, unauthorized access, disclosure, or destruction. No Internet transmission is ever 100% secure or error-free. We cannot warrant the security of any information that you submit to us other than to use our best efforts. You submit PII to us at your own risk.

The school’s Privacy Policy and practices do not extend to third-party sites that can be accessed through links on our Site. We are not responsible for the content, security, or privacy practices employed by other third-party websites. You should always read the privacy policy of every website you visit, even when you access it through this school’s Site.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

The School reserves the right to change this Policy at any time in its sole discretion without prior notice to you. If this Privacy Policy changes, the revised policy will be posted on this Site. Please check back periodically, and especially before you provide any new personally identifiable information.

If you are located in the European Union, starting with May 25, 2018 your personal data is protected by the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in your relationship with all data controllers, both within and outside the EU.

The information presented in this section of the Privacy Policy apply only to EU residents.

If you are an EU resident, you need to be aware that the personal data that we collect about you may be transferred to and processed by recipients that are located outside the European Economic Area, some of which are certified under the Canadian privacy laws, and some not. We will take all necessary measures to ensure that transfers out of the EEA are adequately protected as required by applicable data protection law.

We will retain your personal data that we collect as described in the previous sections of this Privacy Policy as long as necessary to provide you with the requested services. We will take steps to remove your personal data from our systems within 30 days from the date of a request for account / personal data deletion. This does not apply to the extent needed to comply with legal or regulatory obligations to which Global Village Vancouver is subject (e.g. taxation purposes).

We may also retain your personal data after the termination of your account to the extent necessary to comply with applicable laws or if we need your personal data to establish, exercise or defend a legal claim. To the extent possible, we will restrict the processing of your personal data for such limited purposes after the deletion of your account / personal data.

Your rights regarding your personal data as an EU resident

The right to withdraw your consent. When you engage with Global Village Vancouver from our online communication forms, you implicitly agree to our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy, including to how we collect, process and use your personal data. If at any moment after that you wish to withdraw your consent, you can do that with future effect. If you wish to withdraw your consent regarding the receipt of direct marketing communication via email, please contact us via our contact us page with your request and we will get back to you with a solution within 30 days from the date of your email.

The right to request access to your personal data. You have the right to ask whether or not we collect or process personal data about you, and, if we do, to request access to your personal data. You have the right to find out what personal data we have collected about you, the purpose of the collection and who else we have shared this data with. Your access may be restricted, though, by other people’s rights and interests.

The right to request rectification of your personal data. At your request, we will rectify inaccurate personal data concerning you within 30 days of your request. You also have the right to ask us to complete personal data about you that is incomplete.

The right to be forgotten. If you wish to have all your personal data erased from our servers, we can honor that request within 30 days of your request receipt.

The right to request restriction of processing. You have the right to obtain from us restriction of processing your personal data. In such case, we will only process your data for certain purposes that are mandatory by law.

The right to request data portability. At your request, you will receive from us the personal data that we’ve collected about you, in a structured, commonly used and machine-readable format, within 30 days of your request.
